Assignment 5
Design History Project (Final)

Instructions:
This project has two components.

1. You will design a presentation on your designer or movement. Your presentation should contain at least 20 images captioned. Your presentation cannot include a video that someone else has produced (youtube for example). Most students use power point for this presentation. You get to choose the designer or movement from the list at the bottom of this page in orange. The goal of the slide show/presentation is to communicate to me and your classmates the essence of your designer or movement. I will forward the final slide shows to the whole class.

2. You will design a concert poster in the style of your designer or design movement. You will choose (or be assigned) a modern designer or movement selected from the list at the bottom in orange. You will design a poster in the style of your designer to promote a rock band that will include information that assimilates a real rock poster. It is up to you to choose the band, the venue, the dates/times and any other copy that you think would be relevant. Perhaps it could be a tour poster or something else?
The poster should be 20" x 30". It can be done in Photoshop or Illustrator or both. If it is done in Photoshop make sure it is at least 150ppi.

Slide shows and Posters and Due:
Thursday, May 14th (one of our scheduled exam times for this course)

Objectives:
To engage and learn the advanced features of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. To incorporate this learning into designing in the style of your designer. The design does not have to be market specific. It should illustrate the transcendent link that exists between fine art and applied art. This is a opportunity to explore different ideas and techniques. Give serious consideration to the elements your designer or movement used. Consider color, photography, typography, shape, patterns, scale, perspective, proportion, hierarchy and other elements.

To understand the movement your designer is associated with and the influences and events that shaped your designers career. To understand and communicate the cultural, social and political events that shaped your designer and the movement that he is associated with. To understand what artists have been influenced by your designer. To give a presentation and handout that communicates how your designer was influenced and who your designer influenced. In recent years students have given presentations in Power Point format. These have been excellent. It will serve you well to somehow show work on the projection screen. It is always great to see examples. You will also discuss your designers contribution to modern graphic design. This project will involve research on your designer. This research will aid you in your design and presentation.
