Assignment 4
Music Project
Instructions:
To conceive, design and execute a logo, t-shirt and poster. To design a logotype/trademark for a music group or individual. You will conceive the name of your group or individual. To design graphics for a poster that must be at least 20"x30" that promotes your band and incorporates your created name and logo. You must apply your logotype/ trademark and support graphics to a T-shirt.
Objectives:
To develop and improve name development skills. To improve and build upon existing logotype design skills. To create a poster that is exciting and innovative. To focus on typography, illustration and/or photography. To design for a T-shirt.
Guidelines:
You may design and/or produce your poster utilizing whatever production mode you deem necessary. You may consider photography, scanning the image, illustration, cut and paste, electronic etc. The artwork can consist of scanned paintings, drawings and other sources. I encourage you to combine as many mediums as possible and to be highly experimental in nature. Your name and logotype will count for one half of the grade for this project. Therefore it is essential that you give fair consideration to this. The T-shirt and the poster will count toward the remaining one half of your grade.
Considerations:
Think carefully about such elements as typography, form, hierarchy, color and imagery. Another element that is extremely important is the band name and logotype/trademark conceived. Give careful consideration to typography and size relationships to the overall package or poster.
• Understand that poster design for music must have instant impact and is less tied into marketing objectives and frequently has fine art connotations.
Consider how the poster functions psychologically. Like the logo design, the gestalt of the overall communication is extremely important. It should possess impact, stability, boldness, dynamism, energy, modernism and simplicity. Packaging design, like web page design, requires instant audience capture; otherwise your viewer becomes disinterested.
You may want to consider Cafe Press
or Zazzle as a source for getting your t-shirt produced. The copy center also images t-shirts
Important note: For the poster you must have a print made for our final group critique.
